Most of what you're told about money is said with total confidence. Very little of it is checked.
A video says the dollar is about to collapse. A thread says the government is secretly printing money. A headline says rates are coming down, in the same week the people who set them argue about raising them.
Some of it is true. Some of it is half true. A lot of it has no evidence at all. Finformed exists to check.
What you'll get
Five minutes. The one thing that matters today, three numbers with sources, one claim checked, what to watch in UK times.
Starts Mon 9 Nov → Every ThursdayThe WeeklyOne big claim taken apart properly: the data, the strongest case against us, what we don't know, every source linked.
Read The Weekly → Always onClaim checksShort verdicts on the claims doing the rounds, logged on one page so you can see our record.
See the record →How we check a claim
- Pin it downExactly what is being said, by whom and when. If it's too vague to check, we say so.
- Go to the primary sourceThe IMF, Bank of England, US Treasury, Federal Reserve, ONS, BIS. Not a screenshot of a summary.
- Check the numbers ourselvesDates, units and revisions. "Per operation" is not "per quarter".
- Make the best case againstEvery piece states the strongest argument against our own verdict.
- Say what we don't knowEvery piece has a section for it.
- Give a verdictOne of four, always the same four.
Every claim gets one of four verdicts
- Supported
- The evidence backs the claim.
- Partly supported
- Some of it holds; part doesn't, or it's overstated.
- Not supported
- The evidence points the other way.
- Unproven
- Not enough evidence yet, either way. We say what would settle it.
What we won't do
- Tell you what to buy or sell. No tips, no entries, no targets. Finformed is research, not financial advice.
- Publish what we can't evidence, however popular the claim.
- Hide mistakes. Corrections go at the top of the piece, with the date.
Who's behind it
I'm Ja'Van Edwards. I've spent more than 15 years in commercial finance, across property, construction and banking, and I trade my own account. That's exactly why I care about the gap between a story and the evidence. I'm building Finformed in public: you'll see the process on X, mistakes included, as well as the results. More about me →
